A problem has been identified with the System Center 2012 or System Center 2012 R2 client installation (CCMSetup) where it fails to remove a task in Windows Schedule so the client reinstalls every five hours.
In KB4018655 Microsoft has supplied two workarounds. One is to remove the “Configuration Manager Client Retry Task” manually, the other is to employ a PowerShell script to remove the task from the client PC.
The ultimate fix? Microsoft makes a sort of passive-aggressive play by eluding that newer versions of ConfigMgr don’t do this, i.e., YOU SHOULD UPGRADE…
In System Center Configuration Manager current branch version 1602 and later versions, and in long-term servicing branch version 1606, Ccmsetup correctly removes the scheduled task after the clients are upgraded.
