Windows 10 1709 Installation Fails with Error 0x80070057

A thread on the Microsoft Partner Network’s web forums shows an issue where Windows 10 Fall Creators Update will fail to install and, in this case, record a 0x80070057 error in the event log (tap or click for a larger view):


The Microsoft support representative goes on to suggest some ideas to help resolve the installation error.

The one that worked:

Method 3:
1.Open an elevated command prompt
2.Run the following command:
net stop bits
net stop wuauserv
net stop appidsvc
net stop cryptsvc
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start bits
net start wuauserv
net start appidsvc
net start cryptsvc
3. Exit command prompt and check if the issue persists
