Where is the File Association Bug Fix for Windows 10 1809?

One of the more perplexing issues that Microsoft overlooked Windows 10 1809 and has not fixed yet, is the one that prevents some users from setting Win32 program defaults for certain app and file type combinations using the Open with… command or Settings > Apps > Default apps.

This particular bug is an annoyance for sure and has yet to be solved publicly. Almost a day doesn’t go by without someone asking when this particular issues will be resolved.

The hope is that the fix comes this month – during December’s Patch Tuesday.

The fix still sits in the Windows Insider program. Originally released as 17763 on September 18, 2018, the revision is now at Build 17763.167 (KB4469342) and is in the Release Preview ring.

Yes…that literally means that the fix has sat stagnate in the Windows Insider testing phase for almost 3 months. But, with so many new issues uncovered almost weekly with Windows 10 1809, it’s probably a good thing that it has taken so long to filter through to the public.
