Uninstalling the Altiris Agent

There are a lot of folks migrating from old versions of ConfigMgr to CM2012, but also there are a lot more customers who have been running *ahem* other management tools that are also extremely excited about moving the CM2012.  With the horde of new features coming in CM2012 SP1 including mobile device support and a myriad of new non-Microsoft clients, it makes a lot of sense for folks to look to CM2012 as a great solution.

So, one of the *other* management tools is Altiris (now owned by Symantec), and there’s a simple way to remove the Altiris agent on managed endpoints.  You could even engineer a CM2012 package to remove it.

The simple way is to initiate:  C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\AeXAgentUtil.exe /uninstallagents /clean

This removes all sub-agents and attempts to remove the Altiris Agent completely from the system.  Sometimes, though, this is not entirely clean, i.e., some additional remnants of the Altiris Agent are left over in the registry and the file system.

If you want to be completely free of the Altiris Agent on the computer, you’ll want to wipe out the files in C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent, and delete the following registry key (if it still exists after the uninstall):  HKLM\Software\Altiris
