Microsoft Confirms DNS Issue at Fault for Windows 10 Update Problems

A recent problem with Windows’ ability to update had both customers and Microsoft scrambling to pinpoint the cause. After research into the problem, Microsoft identified a global DNS corruption that led to a major outage. Many customers noticed the issue several hours prior through many other means (product and service failures that also depend on DNS), but the Windows 10 updating problem was the final indicator. Microsoft has now provided an explanation through the Windows 10 History Page… February 4, 2019 9:45 PM PST“The Windows Update service was impacted by a data corruption issue in an external DNS service provider global outage on January 29, 2019. The issue was resolved on the same day and Windows Update is now operating normally, but a few customers have continued ...

Review: OIOSEN 8.5-Inch LCD Writing Tablet

Talk about a surprising winner of a gadget, I had no idea how popular the Oiosen LCD Writing Tablet would be when it arrived. I generally like my gadgets to do a multitude of things and be versatile, so when this lower-tech tablet showed up, I had my doubts. Those doubts were very quickly diminished when I handed the tablet to my 8-year old daughter to test for me for a few days. I do a lot of drawing for relaxation. Ironically, my solution is also lower tech than you might imagine. I use an Amazon Fire Tablet HD 10, with a simple AmazonBasics stylus, and the ArtFlow app from the Amazon app store. You might think that this is a pretty silly drawing setup, but after working with it for a few days, I’ve been able to accomplish some pretty significant things. Here’s an example: An...

BitLocker Basics: Don’t Miss Out on Essential Security

Sponsored Post BitLocker disk encryption technology has been a part of the Windows operating system since Windows Vista. It didn’t really hit its stride until Windows 8.1, and now, with Windows 10, it’s almost perfect (in terms of compatibility and manageability). Bottom line as to why you should use it—it just works. It can be enabled during the imaging process from both MDT and ConfigMgr, or enabled via script and controlled by Group Policy. The decryption and recovery keys can be stored in Active Directory or the Microsoft BitLocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) product. There are also several decryption methods, such as TPM unlock, smart card requirements or PIN requirements. All in all, it’s very versatile and totally manageable. This post assumes that you are running Windows 1...
