Support for System Center Endpoint Protection for Mac and Linux Ends December 31, 2018

System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) customers should be aware that Microsoft will end support for the product when protecting Mac and Linux platforms. According to the company… Support for System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) for Mac and Linux (all versions) ends on December 31, 2018. Availability of new virus definitions for SCEP for Mac and SCEP for Linux may be discontinued after the end of support. This discontinuation may occur without notice. If you are using any version of SCEP for Mac or SCEP for Linux, plan to migrate to a replacement endpoint protection product for Mac and Linux clients. Microsoft will not provide a replacement protection product for Linux but will offer ESET Endpoint Security for Mac users.

As Intel Warns Against Patches, Apple Finally Releases Protection for Older Systems

Apple Delivers its Spectre Fixes for MacOS and iOS

Apple Fixed Meltdown in December, Spectre Fix Still to Come

While many of the world’s OS makers have already delivered updates to solve or mitigate the huge processor vulnerabilities this week, Apple has taken a different stance. According to a new support document, Apple already patched against the Meltdown vulnerability in December 2017. The company addressed this issue first, stating that Our analysis suggests that it has the most potential to be exploited. The fixed OS versions are: iOS 11.2, macOS 10.13.2, and tvOS 11.2. Windows 10 Creators Update on Mac with Boot Camp Requires Extra Steps

If you want to run Windows 10 Creators Update on a Mac with Boot Camp, you actually have to install Windows 10 twice. First, install Windows 10 Anniversary Update and then upgrade to Windows 10 Creators Update. Microsoft Introduces Preview of SQL Server Command-line for Mac

For all those Mac users out there who have felt a bit left out because all their Windows counterparts were able to run SQL commands and they weren’t – that is about to change. Microsoft has now introduced a preview of a set of SQL Server command-line tools for Mac users – specifically, sqlcmd and bcp. The sqlcmd utility is a command-line tool that lets you submit T-SQL statements or batches to local and remote instances of SQL Server. The utility is extremely useful for repetitive database tasks such as batch processing or unit testing. The bulk copy program utility (bcp), bulk copies data between an instance of Microsoft SQL Server and a data file in a user-specified format. Microsoft today has officially announced and released a first preview for Visual Studio for Mac and a close to complete release candidate of Visual Studio 2017 for Windows. Visual Studio for Mac is not necessarily a new product, but rather a rebranded edition of the Xamarin Studio integrated development environment specifically designed to work on the Mac. Microsoft accidentally “outed” its Mac product 2 days ago when it accidentally pre-posted the announcement.  Microsoft acquired Xamarin in February of 2016. Earlier today, Microsoft’s MSDN site hosted an announcement that the company will be announcing a Visual Studio for the Mac preview at the Microsoft’s Connect(); conference later this week.
