Microsoft’s Rick Claus on IT/Dev Connections and Why the Azure Team is Increasing Involvement with the Conference

For those that are just catching up, many of you know Rick Claus from the wildly popular Patch and Switch podcast with Joey Snow, his work with Channel 9 at Microsoft conferences and possibly even his work with IT/Dev Connections over the past few years. Rick is now leading an Azure team at Microsoft and we’re happy to announce today that Rick will be serving as our keynote speaker this year! Rick’s keynote is still coming together, but what he’s shared with me so far shows it will be visionary, timely, and recommended for those that want to extend their career as an IT Pro, a Developer and in the DevOps world. Fantastic! After a BIG week at the 25,000-plus attendee Microsoft Ignite in Orlando, Florida last week, we caught up with Rick to get this take on his (and his team’s) involve...

Need to Get Proficient with Microsoft Modern Management and the Latest System Center Configuration Manager?

There was a LOT of talk at Microsoft Ignite this year about new and upcoming features for Microsoft Modern Management using System Center Configuration Manager and Microsoft Intune. Most know that Ignite is not really the right place for System Center topics, unfortunately, though many attendees still believe there’s value there. There’s was a lot of evidence of this shown in the overflowing session rooms for System Center products. Obviously, there was a lot more value to be had in the old Microsoft Management Summit that focused solely on managing endpoints in Microsoft-centric environments. But, those are the days of the past, and sadly, many are somehow still under the impression that Ignite is the only resource for good System Center content despite reports to the contrary...

Spend an Entire Day with Johan Arwidmark Learning to Deploy Windows 10

Those that attended Microsoft Ignite this year, were able to get tidbits here and there about deploying Windows 10. Even going back and streaming the recorded session, most have to spend time trying to piece the various sources together to get a uniform view. IT/Dev Connections 2018 is your first post-Ignite chance to sit in an all-day, pre-conference workshop with the master of Windows 10 deployment, Johan Arwidmark. Because this is an all-day workshop, you can go deep-dive and get all the information presented at once. And, additionally, because its a right-sized conference (you’re not fighting 25,000 other people for pole position), you can get all your questions answered because you have direct access to Johan! Check out Johan’s workshop: Migrating to Windows 10 – Not...

Your First Chance to Go Deep-dive with SQL Server 2019

Microsoft Ignite is an awesome opportunity to get to know Microsoft’s vision for its next products. But, it’s difficult to get deep-dive instruction on the newly christened products and services and most of the recorded sessions are still pretty high level. IT/Dev Connections is the first chance most will get to work with the announced products and services. Each year, immediately following Microsoft Ignite, the IT/Dev Connections speakers quickly update their session abstracts to include the content about the new products that they were under obligation or NDA not to talk about until announced at Ignite. Here’s a great example… Bob Ward, Principal Architect at Microsoft, will be delivering sessions at IT/Dev Connections on SQL Server.  Prior to Ignite, his sessions...

Taking SCCM to the Cloud

Microsoft has been continually adding new features to System Center Configuration Manager to ensure that it can work as a true hybrid cloud mechanism, allowing customers to take advantage of both on-premises and Azure value prospects. There’s a lot of value in doing it this way. Microsoft recently delivered a download that documents how the company has pioneered this effort itself. Download: Migrating System Center Configuration Manager on-premises infrastructure to Microsoft Azure – To reduce reliance on on-premises infrastructure, Microsoft Core Services Engineering and Operations migrated Configuration Manager to Azure, allowing flexible scaling of both virtual machine size and site server roles to mirror demand and reduce costs. As valuable as this document is for spurring ...
