Review: dodocool Foldable Solar Charger with Dual USB Ports

The summer just got away from me. I’ve kept up with my running, as usual, but I had awesome plans to do some short weekend trips for hiking. I love the outdoors and I love exploring. It just didn’t happen this year and school starts back up for our kids in just a few short weeks.

And, to make matters worse and add insult to injury… First, I have a friend that is hiking guide in the great Northwest and his trip pictures this summer have been amazing. But, also I have another friend that recently decided to go completely minimalist. She and her husband sold everything to move out west and they are both now working for a national park and looking to get fully park ranger certified. I tell you…that is a really appealing move these days. And, then – wouldn’t you know it – Facebook’s timeline feature started showing me pictures I took in 2013 when the wife and I traveled to Colorado to visit family and do some exploring in Estes Park.

Anyway, I tell you all that to say this…as you know I come across the strangest things sometimes to test and review. This latest gadget is not that strange based on my now dashed summer plans, but for most, its not something that might immediately come to mind. But, once you realize what this is and does, those with a penchant for the outside life should find this extremely useful.

The dodocool Solar Charger is an interesting and useful gadget – particularly for hikers or anyone taking a camping trip. Its foldable so it can be stowed away, but then also unfolded to its max and tethered to a backpack to gather solar power while hiking the trails. It also comes with a kickstand so you can attract a full charge while at the campsite or stopped to rest during a long trek.

The solar charge is redirected to two 10000 mAh USB Ports hidden inside a zippered pocket. The pocket is sized just right to store and carry two charging smartphones. The solar charger is water resistant.

Those that have hiking ambitions such as mine, or who were able to actually take advantage of the summer weather for outdoor activities, would love a charging cover like this.

Amazon has this charger for around $45: dodocool Foldable Solar Charger with Dual USB Ports
