PowerShell Executable to Be Renamed

Its the little things.

Today on Twitter, the godfather and creator of PowerShell, Jeffery Snover, retweeted an announcement from Steve Lee that the PowerShell executable will get a new name for PSCore. The new way to initiate PowerShell will be to use pwsh.exe.

The executable won’t be renamed across all versions, only for the more modern version. Essentially…

powershell.exe = Windows PowerShell

pwsh.exe = PowerShell Core 6
