This is huge news! Odyssey Software has been acquired by Symantec. There’s not a press release yet, but I expect it shortly since this is now public knowledge. In fact, I was contacted by someone from Odyssey Software this morning to give me the direct scoop.
Plans are in place to continue to support ConfigMgr for managing mobile devices, but further information and details are sketchy. Odyssey Software will still be at MMS 2012, however, they will be under the Symantec banner. Odyssey Software is a Silver sponsor of myITforum.com and work is being done to ensure that Symantec utilizes myITforum.com in the future as part of the overall ConfigMgr plan.
As we all know, though, Symantec’s acquisition history is not great. Many a bright, shining star has been consumed of all light by the black hole called Symantec. It’s rare to find a product that Symantec acquired where pieces, or all of it, didn’t end up in the dustbin.
If you jump out to the Odyssey Software site today, you’ll see a banner pointing to more information about the acquisition. The link takes you to the location on Symantec’s web site: http://www.symantec.com/mobile-device-security
