Windows 10

Multiple Ways to Retrieve the Windows 10 Build and Version Number

If you need to learn the Windows 10 Build and Version number of an installed PC (or set of PCs), use one of the following methods.

Key path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

Value name – ReleaseID = Version (name based on year/month of release: 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703, etc.)

Value name – CurrentBuild or CurrentBuildNumber = OS Build (part before period, ex. 15063.483)

Value name – UBR = OS Build (part after period, ex. 15063.483)

(Pulls from the registry)

function Get-RegistryValue($key, $value) {
(Get-ItemProperty $key $value).$value
$a1 = Get-RegistryValue “HKLM:\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion” CurrentBuild
$a2 = Get-RegistryValue “HKLM:\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion” UBR
Write-Host Version $a1′.’$a2

In the Cortana “Run” area, just type Winver.exe and hit Enter. The following windows will display…

SQL Query

(For manage clients)

Netbios_Name0 as PCName,
Operating_System_Name_and0 as OS,
GSOS.Version0 as OSversion,
Last_Logon_Timestamp0 as LastLogonTime
FROM v_R_System RS
inner join v_GS_OPERATING_SYSTEM GSOS on RS.ResourceID = GSOS.ResourceID
