During the latest round of internal shuffles which included the news of Terry Myerson leaving the company, Microsoft tipped its hand as to its future focus. As many already realized, Microsoft’s cloud services continue to lead as its core business. But, as Windows was deemphasized in this latest move, the company put a stark spotlight on another area that it believes will propel it into the future: Artificial Intelligence.
Microsoft believes in this direction so much, that it has now launched training for core competency in this area.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) will define the next generation of software solutions. Human-like capabilities such as understanding natural language, speech, vision, and making inferences from knowledge will extend software beyond the app.
The program consists of 10 courses, 8-16 hours to complete, and an issuance of 10 competency skills.
Of course, this class teaches the “Microsoft way” for AI and also serves as a way to sway developers toward Microsoft’s AI vision. This area of focus has strong competition in a market in which Microsoft is not leading.
