According to blogs posted by both Avere Systems and Microsoft, Avere will be joining Microsoft to bring its hybrid cloud approach to Microsoft’s cloud platform. Avere Systems produces technology that allows company’s to still maintain a local datacenter, but offload resources and compute cycles when needed to Azure. This will allow companies to continue with their on-premises investments but take advantage of Azure to expand local resources when needed.
Avere’s announcement: Avere Systems: Joining Microsoft to bring Scalable Hybrid Solutions With Azure
According to the Avere, the technology allows customers to efficiently share both storage and compute resources across multiple data centers, and effectively implement and use private and public cloud infrastructures.
For those companies reluctant to make a full move to the cloud, this solution gives them cloud resources without a major investment in migration.
Avere Systems is Microsoft’s first acquisition of 2018.
