Microsoft Finally Lets Alienware PCs Install the Windows 10 April 2018 Update

Due to incompatibility problems, there were several models of Dell’s Alienware PCs that Microsoft had to block from accepting its latest feature update – the April 2018 update.  There was a slew of customer reports that the PCs would  display a black screen after resuming from battery saver mode.

Just before Patch Tuesday for July 2018, Microsoft has now lifted the ban.

A Microsoft moderator in the Windows 10 forums, says this…

Updated (7/9/18):

This error message previously appeared when attempting to install the April 2018 Update on any of the following Dell devices:

  • Alienware 13 R3
  • Alienware 15 R3
  • Alienware 15 R4
  • Alienware 17 R4
  • Alienware 17 R5

Microsoft was previously blocking these models from installing the update due to a known incompatibility that may cause these devices to display a black screen after resuming from battery saver mode.  This incompatibility has been resolved and the block for these models has been removed.

Windows Update will notify you when the April 2018 Update is ready for your device.  Or you can check for the update manually by selecting the Start  button, then selecting Settings > Update & security > Windows Update , and then Check for updates.
