Microsoft Extends the Windows 10 S Free Upgrade Program

In a blog post today announcing new Surface Laptop colors, the company has also announced that it is extending the free upgrade offer for Windows 10 S users to move to Windows 10 Pro.

For those that find they need an application that isn’t yet available in the Store and must be installed from another source, we’re extending the ability to switch from Windows 10 S to Windows 10 Pro for free until March 31, 2018. We hope this provides increased flexibility for those people searching for the perfect back-to-school or holiday gift.

There’s been a growing concern that Windows 10 S might follow the same doomed trajectory that Windows RT took – due to the lack of app support and an operating system that is limited to obtaining applications only from the sandboxed Windows Store.
