Microsoft Permanently Cuts HealthVault Communication with Health Care Providers

Microsoft continues to cull those services that don’t meet with its future focus. Believe it or not, HealthVault is still around, but its difficult to determine for how long, as a new feature is being cut off at the end of the year.

The Direct Messaging service in HealthVault will be shut down as of December 27, 2018 at Noon PST.

  • How does this impact me or my health care provider?

After December 27, 2018, you will not be able to use the Health Messages Center to send or receive messages with your health care provider.

  • What happens to my data in the HealthVault Message Center? Will I be able to access my data using HealthVault?

You will continue to have access to your HealthVault Message Center and the historical data/messages stored in your HealthVault account, but after December 27, 2018, you will not be able to use it for future message exchange. Your health data can still be exported from HealthVault in formats that can be shared.

  • Will my health care provider still be able post data to my HealthVault account using the HealthVault Direct Messaging service after December 27, 2018?

No, your health care provider will no longer be able to post any information to your HealthVault account using the HealthVault Direct Messaging service after December 27, 2018.

  • What actions can I take to ensure there is no interruption in the ability of my health care provider to communicate with me, and vice versa?

If your health care provider has communicated with you in the past using the HealthVault Direct Messaging service, you will need to check with your health care provider for information how it will send messages after December 27, 2018.
