Microsoft Changes the Windows Update Scan Command for Windows 10

In the latest update to Windows 10 (and Windows Server 2016), Microsoft has disabled the capability of the wuauclt /detectnow command. This command has been used by administrators for a long time to initiate an immediate scan for new updates on the Automatic Update client.

In Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016, the command to use now is:

c:\windows\system32\UsoClient.exe startscan

Run this command in an elevated CMD window.
