Microsoft acquires Simplygon to Extend Its 3D for Everyone Promise

In October 2016, Microsoft revealed that it believes 3D graphic data should be part of an integrated platform and accessible to everyone. At the time, the company unveiled Paint 3D to help promote the strategy. Windows Insiders recently due complained when Microsoft made Paint 3D the default Windows graphic application due to the application’s lackluster value and performance. Microsoft backed down and restored Windows defaults.

To continue its push into the 3D world, Microsoft and Simplygon have simultaneously announced that Microsoft will acquire the premier developer of automatic 3D data-optimization solutions.

Neither company makes mention of what will happen to Simplycon employees, except that the company will join forces with Microsoft and that the leadership team, led by CEO Matt Connors, founder and CTO Ulrik Lindahl and co-founder Koshi Hamedi, bring a depth of knowledge around 3D creation optimization, and we’re excited to welcome the team to Microsoft.
