Guest Access in SMB2 for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Disabled by Default

Microsoft Security recommends that guest access for SMB2 be disabled. And, while some third-party services and products might require it, Microsoft’s operating systems have not required it since Windows 2000. However, there are many legacy products and services that might be affected by Microsoft’s latest decision to secure its customers by disabling guess access by default.

Customers will need to test to ensure critical systems still work before deploying Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and/or Windows Server 2016 version 1709.

Microsoft has provided guidance on how to re-enable guess access through a registry edit and GPO.
