Despite a KB that shows a blank resolution area, Microsoft is issuing a statement to inform Configuration Manager customers about changes in version 1702 that could keep clients from getting updates through WSUS.
According to KB4041003:
Beginning with version 1702, clients use boundary groups to find a new software update point, and to fallback and find a new software update point if their current one is no longer accessible. If you install a new site that runs version 1702 or later, you must assign software update points to a boundary group before clients can find and use them.
This is in relation to a problem some customers are experiencing where…
After you install Configuration Manager version 1702, new clients that you install may be unable to get software updates from WSUS. This may also happen if you have reinstalled the software update point used by the clients on a different server.
