Patch Management / Patch Tuesday

Cause and Solution to October’s “Delta” Updates and Inaccessible Boot Devices

Some patching admins who use WSUS (which could include Configuration Manager) are in for a surprise today. Someone, somewhere goofed and delivered both Delta package information along with the full patch downloads into the WSUS system.

If both of these are selected to install at the same time, severe problems can occur – including inaccessible booth devices, which we covered earlier in relation to Virtual Machines.

This is a pretty nasty scenario.

The Deployment Bunny himself, Mikael Nystrom, has recorded the cause and a workaround here: The October 2017 Update – “Inaccessible Boot Device”
