Bug in Microsoft’s Malware Protection Engine Forces Out of Band Security Fix

Late Monday, the US-CERT warned of a critical vulnerability in the Malware Protection Engine that potentially affects all versions of supported Windows. Since the vulnerability is in the protection engine itself, anything that Windows Defender, Security Essentials, Intune Protection, Endpoint Protection, and Forefront products are vulnerable.

Microsoft has issued the fix (Microsoft Security Advisory 4022344) and it is circulating as a regular engine update. It should be installed right away.
