BITS is a bit..ch

I found a really good blog about troubleshooting SCCM and BITS downloads
http://iboyd.net/index.php/2009/01/09/troubleshooting-sccm-and-bits-downloads/

If you are having trouble with certain packages downloading, a good log to look at is the latest .log file in C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\W3SVC1\
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943891 lists all the error codes..

One issue I was having was deploying a program that had a folder \bin:
2010-03-22 04:37:30 130.194.3.4 HEAD /SMS_DP_SMSPKGE$/BU1000BA/bin/VMware-viclient.exe – 80 – 130.194.45.223 Microsoft+BITS/7.5 404 8 0 31

404.8 – Hidden namespace.

To resolve this you need to edit the <requestFiltering> section in %windir%\System32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config.
Under this there is another section – hiddenSegments
I then removed the line mentioning bin.

Another example – this being a blocked file type:
2010-03-22 02:34:14 130.194.3.119 HEAD /SMS_DP_SMSPKGE$/BU1000B9/program+files/Datastream/Datastream+Advance/User/Search.mdb – 80 – 130.194.45.223 Microsoft+BITS/7.5 404 7 0 187

404.7 – File extension denied.

You can change     <add fileExtension=”.mdb” allowed=”false” /> to <add fileExtension=”.mdb” allowed=”true” />
or remove the line if  your config is set to <fileExtensions allowUnlisted=”true” applyToWebDAV=”true”>

I am an SOE Engineer working mainly with SCCM. I hope some of my blogs can help others deal with problems I have come across.
