Amazon Echo Show customers today are finding they can’t play YouTube videos on their devices. The reason is pretty clear. Google is having trouble playing catch-up with its Google Home devices so its using the only leverage it has – it has revoked access to YouTube on Echo Show devices.
When asked, Google said…
We’ve been in negotiations with Amazon for a long time, working towards an agreement that provides great experiences for customers on both platforms. Amazon’s implementation of YouTube on the Echo Show violates our terms of service, creating a broken user experience. We hope to be able to reach an agreement and resolve these issues soon.
Sounds suspiciously similar to what Google has done in other situations including keeping a YouTube app off of Microsoft’s last mobile phone platform.
Alexa is available for Amazon devices Echo, Dot, Tap, Echo Show, Echo Look, Dash Wand, Fire tablets, and Fire TV, Amazon Fire TV Edition TVs, in the Music app, but also on iOS, Android, and the web with Reverb.ai.
