The remote control unit that comes with Fire TV devices is pretty limited. So much so, that a whole third-party industry has grown up to supply Fire TV remote control add-ons, like the Sideclick Remote.
Earlier today, Amazon announced a new, refreshed Fire TV stick with 4K that comes with a brand new remote type that includes volume controls and a mute button – which is essentially the reason why many Fire TV owners have invested in third-party remote controller add-ons. The new controller utilizes universal device codes to work with most TVs, sound bars and A/V receivers.
Amazon has also decided to include previous Fire TV device customers in the new controller goodness. Current customers can now pre-order the new controller for $29.99 (which is the same price as the Sideclick Remote) and it will pair with existing devices. Its compatible with Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube, and Amazon Fire TV (3rd Gen, Pendant Design).
Pre-orders start today and the controller will start shipping on October 31, 2018.
