Amazon today announced that its EC2 Instances and EBS Volumes will now be charged at a per-second billing rate. This change sends the company headlong into direct competition with Microsoft and Google, renewing the volley in the cloud wars. Microsoft and Google currently charge by the hour.
As has been the case in the cloud wars, expect both Microsoft and Google to respond with similar offerings soon.
The new pricing applies to both company’s computing capabilities and its storage service.

Amazon continues to be the leader in the cloud computing space. Microsoft has made serious inroads over the last year to make up lost ground. Google is due for new announcements to help show that it is still concerned with competing.
