If you’re like us, you have an Echo device in just about every voice-reachable area in your home or apartment. In our house, there’s literally no Alexa-free zone – and that’s on purpose so we all have access to Alexa features, but also so we can communicate with each other using the whole home intercom capability. We use the Drop-in feature here quite a bit. But, what if you want to talk to everyone in the house at once?
Before today’s update you couldn’t do that. But, now using just a simple voice command you can “announce” a message across every installed Echo device at once.
“Alexa, tell everyone…“
…and, everything after the word “announce” or “broadcast” or “tell everyone” will be broadcast to every installed Echo device.
One extra bit of fascination in this feature is that Alexa records the audio of your announcement before retransmitting it across devices. This is sure to freak out those privacy conspiracy nuts and it won’t be long before someone will say that Amazon is recording and keeping because it works for the government, the Russians, or just wants to track your shopping habits.
