Alexa Tip: Playing Music in Another Room

Alexa customers are constantly requesting a whole-home audio experience for Alexa devices. And, while Amazon is rumored to be working on a proper solution, a recent update gives customers the ability to, at least, command Alexa to play music and podcasts in another room of the house.

If you have multiple Alexa devices in your home, and have gone through to rename them something memorable, you can now tell Alexa to play music on a specific device.

You can say things like…

“Alexa, play songs by the band <band name> in the office”

“Alexa, play <podcast name> podcast in the basement”

Additionally, the other music voice commands also work. You can tell Alexa to pause, stop, move to the next song, etc. – all from another room.

Alexa can’t yet play music simultaneously across all (or some) devices, but that feature is getting closer.
