Just like a PC, Amazon sends updates to its Alexa device periodically to deliver new features and fix bugs. However, sometimes those updates fail to install for one reason or another or just take longer to arrive for your device. About the only way to determine if you’re missing an update is to see what new features have been announced and whether or not your device has them.
Fortunately, you can force an update to install. There are two ways of forcing an update for Amazon’s Alexa devices.
- Pull the power cable and plug it back in (essentially a reboot). This clears device cache and forces the device to connect with Amazon.
- Tap the Mute button and wait for about 30 minutes.
