Amazon recently rolled out the ability for third-party skill providers to enable notifications for their skill content. There are a few skill builders that do that already, including AccuWeather. For AccuWeather, specifically, it essentially turns your Alexa device into a NOAA weather radio. Cool feature.
However, this ability doesn’t work right away for some people. If the skill is already installed, when trying to enable it through the Notification screen you can toggle the switch to turn on notifications but it doesn’t retain your selection. Because this is a new feature, the addition of the Notification function requires you to agree to new permissions – specifically the “Amazon Notifications” permission. Sadly, there’s nothing anywhere to tell you this, but to get the notifications to work, you have to manually disable and re-enable the skill.
Go into the Skills section of the Alexa app, locate the skill and disable and then re-enable it.
