Alexa Tip: Enabling Skills to Notify You

Amazon has rolled out a notification feature for third party skills. The company has enabled the ability for third party skills to deliver notifications and included the option in a refreshed Notification section on the app. There are only a couple skills available currently that support notifications, but more are on the way. One great example of how this proves immediately valuable is by enabling the AccuWeather skill notification. This effectively turns your Alexa device into a weather NOAA radio, except that when a notification is available, Alexa will alert you with a sound and yellow ring. You can then ask Alexa to “read your notification.”

Prior to this update, only Amazon shopping was enabled for notifications.

Enable notifications for each skill available by going to Settings – Notifications – Skill area. Locate the skill for which you’d like to enable Notifications and toggle the On switch.
