Alexa Tip: Devices Can’t Exist in Multiple Groups for Multi-room Music

As some are already configuring their Alexa devices after Amazon delivered multi-room music streaming capability, there’s at least one drawback that many are recognizing quickly.

Each Alexa device can only exist in a single device group. Once you have configured a set of devices to be part of a named group, those devices cannot be configured to be part of another group. When you attempt to add them to a second group, they show as grayed-out in the Alexa app and cannot be selected.

If you want a device that has already been assigned to be included in a different group, you’ll need to edit the original group and remove that device before it can be utilized elsewhere.
