Alexa’s Flash News is pretty cool in that you can get daily headlines and articles read to you. The drawback is that you’re stuck listening to headlines that the provider delivers and the content can not be personalized nor is it customizable.
A new skill called Article Reader helps improve on the Flash News concept and allows you create your own personalized news. It does this by linking to Pocket account. So, during the day, using a plug-in for your web browser or one of the Pocket apps, you can stow away articles on the web that you’d like to read later on. Then, as your day comes to a close (or over lunch or whenever you have a few free minutes), Alexa can read each article to you. The skill will read up to 20 stored articles and you can also request any of the 20 articles by number.
You can say things like…
“Alexa, ask Article Reader to read an article”
“Alexa, ask Article Reader to read article 1”
“Alexa, ask Article Reader to read a random article”
“Alexa, ask Article Reader to read the next article”
Where to get it: You can locate the Article Reader Skill in the Amazon Alexa app, enable it using your voice, or use the following web link: Article Reader
Alexa is available for Amazon devices Echo, Dot, Tap, Echo Show, Echo Look, Dash Wand, Fire tablets, and Fire TV, Amazon Fire TV Edition TVs, but also on iOS, Android, and the web with Reverb.ai.
