Each week, we take a look at new and important Alexa skills you might want to consider enabling for your Alexa device. Amazon continues to improve Alexa with its own updates, but skills are software components that allow Alexa users to extend functionality across all Alexa-enabled devices in use for very specific functions.
This week’s skill: Today in Music
Description: Today in Music is a daily program that provides updates on the latest news in music. Learn about new releases, music history and more, curated by the experts at Amazon Music.
Real world use: I’m a fan of new and interesting music – all genres. On Fridays, Amazon sends out a newly released music news letter and its one of my favorites. When this newsletter delivers to my inbox around 3:00pm on Friday, I know that the week is almost over and the weekend is here. So, that’s one good thing about it. But, it also gives me a chance to see what’s been released and what I might be able to listen to on my runs for the next week.
We’re an Amazon ecosystem family with our Alexa devices, Prime membership, Audible books, Kindle unlimited, Fire TV, and others, but also, we subscribe to Amazon Prime Music. This means that whenever I find some interesting music in that weekly newsletter, I can add it to “My Music” and start listening right away.
This new official Amazon skill hasn’t replaced my love and anticipation for the weekly newsletter, but it has enhanced it. Today in Music is a Flash Briefing skill that delivers a daily dose of what’s new so I can locate new music sooner. There’s tons of new music released regularly and its hard to keep track. This new skill helps keep on top of the latest releases and keeps my running list stocked.
