Each week, we take a look at new and important Alexa skills you might want to consider enabling for your Alexa device. Amazon continues to improve Alexa with its own updates, but skills are software components that allow Alexa users to extend functionality across all Alexa-enabled devices in use for very specific functions.
This week’s skill: Magoosh Vocabulary Builder
Description: Vocabulary Builder is verbal adaptation of Magoosh’s vocabulary builder flashcard game on both Android and iOS.
Real world use: As the “Alexa Skill of the Week” series has become more and more popular and the readership has increased, I now regularly receive emails from other skill builders asking that we will test and review their skills for consideration as a skill-of-the-week. There have been a few duds, but I’m happy to say that this latest one, the Magoosh Vocabulary Builder is an exception.
Alexa skills, these days, are a dime a dozen, so locating some really great offerings is getting more and more difficult. So, when something like this skill – intended to educate and provide personal improvement – comes along, it quickly becomes a worthy addition to the series.
The Magoosh Vocabulary Builder for Alexa is presented in game format. After you enable and then execute (just say: “Alexa, start vocabulary builder”) the skill, you’ll be presented with 5 random questions about vocabulary. Each time you get one right, the skill will give you a point. After 5 questions have been asked, your score is tallied.
This is a great way for anyone – kids to adults – to set about to improve their supremacy of the English language.
