Alexa Skill of the Week: Cleo

Alexa Skill of the Week: Cleo

Each week, we take a look at new and important Alexa skills you might want to consider enabling for your Alexa device. Amazon continues to improve Alexa with its own updates, but skills are software components that allow Alexa users to extend functionality across all Alexa-enabled devices in use for very specific functions.

Alexa is available for Amazon devices Echo, Echo 2, Dot, Tap, Echo Spot, Echo Plus, Echo Show, Echo Look, Echo Connect, Dash Wand, Amazon Cloud Cam, Fire tablets, and Fire TV, Amazon Fire TV Edition TVs, in the Music app, but also on iOS, Android, and the web with

This week’s skill: Cleo

Description: You love learning new things from Alexa and now it’s your turn to help her learn! Do you speak a language that Alexa doesn’t understand? Cleo is your opportunity to share more about that language and culture with Alexa. You’ll be prompted by Alexa in English to respond to her in your chosen language or dialect. Earn badges, climb the ranks, and help contribute to Alexa’s future understanding.

Real world use: There’s not a huge number of people in the world that are fluent in multiple languages, but for those that are – its your turn to help make Alexa a better assistant.

We’re an English speaking household, but in our family we actually have two people that speak multiple languages. My oldest daughter is fluent in Spanish learned through many years of study in high school and college. And, myself, I speak Chinese which is both self-taught and learned through immersion through many visits to deep China. So, this skill has been fun. It not only helps Alexa, but really forces you to dig deep to practice your language skills.

This latest skill has been developed and delivered by Amazon – so its an official avenue for your to help Amazon continue improving its language services.

The skill works by Alexa asking you to for certain phrases and questions from which she needs to learn words and inflections.

Where to get it: You can locate the Cleo Skill in the Amazon Alexa app, enable it using your voice, or use the following web link: Cleo
