Each week, we take a look at new and important Alexa skills you might want to consider enabling for your Alexa device. Amazon continues to improve Alexa with its own updates, but skills are software components that allow Alexa users to extend functionality across all Alexa-enabled devices in use for very specific functions.
Alexa is available for Amazon devices Echo, Echo 2, Dot, Tap, Echo Spot, Echo Plus, Echo Show, Echo Look, Echo Connect, Dash Wand, Amazon Cloud Cam, Fire tablets, and Fire TV, Amazon Fire TV Edition TVs, in the Music app, but also on iOS, Android, and the web with Reverb.ai.
This week’s skill: Change the Subject
Description: Do you need to lighten the mood and find something new to talk about fast? It’s time to Change The Subject!
Change The Subject is the ultimate skill for starting conversations and keeping things fun. To get started, simply say: Alexa, change the subject. She can ask questions to keep the conversation going, entertain you with facts, or just crack a few jokes to reduce tension.
Real world use: Ah…that holidays. While many look forward to getting together with family and friends over the joyous season, many also realize that there’s certain topics of discussion that can turn into heated explosions particularly in this polarized environment. You’d think that the reason for the season would overshadow all else and blanket the world with thankfulness and celebration, but sadly that’s not always the case.
Well, Alexa could be the help we all need. This new skill, Change the Subject, can be used at just the right time to influence volatile topics and direct conversations toward a better path that could save friendships and help avoid family disputes that have a tendency to carry on for years.
Here’s a few example indicators of when you might consider using Change the Subject:
“Did you see what he tweeted today?”
“Who takes a hammer to hard drives if you’re not hiding something criminal?”
“Please pass the Russian salad dressing…”
