Alexa Skill of the Week: Castbox

Each week, we take a look at new and important Alexa skills you might want to consider enabling for your Alexa device. Amazon continues to improve Alexa with its own updates, but skills are software components that allow Alexa users to extend functionality across all Alexa-enabled devices in use for very specific functions.

Alexa is available for Amazon devices Echo, Dot, Tap, Echo Show, Echo Look, Dash Wand, Fire tablets, and Fire TV, but also on iOS, Android, and the web with

This week’s skill: Castbox

Description: With over 50 million episodes to choose from, CastBox lets you listen to, create, and share your favorite audio content anytime, anywhere.

Real world use: If you’re not familiar with Castbox, it’s a service that seeks to consolidate the world’s online entertainment. CastBox offers more than 400,000 podcasts, radio channels, audiobooks, talk shows and more all in one place and it also offers Podcast hosting, i.e., become your own Internet media giant.

Alexa integration is the company’s latest venture, with Chromecast, Android, and iOS support already available. But, its one of those situations where there’s just so much to choose from you’re definitely going to miss something good. But, its not like cable TV where there’s 1,000 channels and nothing but crap to watch – with Castbox there’s always something good to uncover.

To use the Alexa skill, you’ll want to sign up for a Castbox account, and then use either the web site or the app to locate and subscribe to your favorites. After that, just say…

“Alexa, Play CastBox”

“Alexa, Open CastBox”

“Alexa, Launch CastBox”

And, use the regular Alexa streaming commands like…

“Alexa, play”

“Alexa, stop/pause”

“Alexa, skip/next”

Where to get it: You can locate the Castbox Skill in the Amazon Alexa app, enable it using your voice, or use the following web link: Castbox

Web site:

iOS app: Castbox

Android app: Castbox

Amazon Android app: Castbox
