Alexa Skill of the Week: Bamboo Music

Alexa Skill of the Week: Bamboo Music

Each week, we take a look at new and important Alexa skills you might want to consider enabling for your Alexa device. Amazon continues to improve Alexa with its own updates, but skills are software components that allow Alexa users to extend functionality across all Alexa-enabled devices in use for very specific functions.

This week’s skill: Bamboo Music

Description: Bamboo Learning created Bamboo Music to help you learn and understand different elements of music theory, whether you are taking music lessons, or just want to learn more about music.

Real world use: I knew it wouldn’t be long before someone took the idea of Alexa and applied real learning scenarios to Amazon’s voice service. Bamboo Learning has done just that with its first skill – this one focused on learning music theory. Bamboo Music makes music theory both educational and fun, giving kids the ability to earn badges as they advance their way through the varying levels of music knowledge.

Apparently, this is only the first of a series of learning skills from Bamboo Learning. We’ve homeschooled a couple of our kids for periods of time. Our youngest son (who’s actually 19), was homeschooled for three years before heading back to public school. The time away from the public ‘scene’ was timed perfectly, as it kept him grounded and when he went back into the system he immediately became one of the most popular kids – primarily because he wasn’t like everyone else and didn’t have the hang-ups or tarnished image suffered by those that were in public school during those uncomfortable and confusing pre-teen years.

We’ll be starting to homeschool our youngest daughter (now 9) starting this fall and will attempt to do with her the same as our son since it worked so well. With the addition of skills like these from Bamboo Learning, it’s going to be interesting to see how these can be integrated into daily learning. I definitely welcome any additional options they provide and as an Alexa developer myself, it has my idea engine working on my next series of Alexa skills.

Where to get it: You can locate the Bamboo Music Skill in the Amazon Alexa app, enable it using your voice, or use the following web link: Bamboo Music

Alexa is available for Amazon devices Echo, Echo 2, Dot, Tap, Echo Spot, Echo Plus, Echo Show, Echo Look, Echo Connect, Dash Wand, Amazon Cloud Cam, Fire tablets, and Fire TV, Amazon Fire TV Edition TVs, in the Music app, but also on iOS, Android, and the web with Reverb.ai.
