Each week, we take a look at new and important Alexa skills you might want to consider enabling for your Alexa device. Amazon continues to improve Alexa with its own updates, but skills are software components that allow Alexa users to extend functionality across all Alexa-enabled devices in use for very specific functions.
This week’s skill: Away Mode
Description: Away Mode is the first ever home protection skill that harnesses the power of human awkwardness to ward off unwanted visitors. It’s like that scene from Home Alone, except instead of cardboard cutouts, its insufferable conversations written by the writers of SNL, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and UCB.
Real world use: For those worried that your stuff is simply too valuable for a home invader to pass up, here’s a pretty cool new Alexa skill. Called Away Mode, you initiate the skill as you leave your abode and Alexa will play conversations from various sources to make it seem like someone is still home. It can help provide additional peace of mind.
Alexa is available for Amazon devices Echo, Echo 2, Dot, Tap, Echo Spot, Echo Plus, Echo Show, Echo Look, Echo Connect, Dash Wand, Amazon Cloud Cam, Fire tablets, and Fire TV, Amazon Fire TV Edition TVs, in the Music app, but also on iOS, Android, and the web with Reverb.ai.
