One of the bigger issues with Alexa devices is how difficult it can be to locate proper skills to improve functionality. Alexa can’t to everything so Amazon has devised the ability for customers to integrate capabilities from developer made add-on features. But, as we noted earlier today, the Amazon skills database for Alexa is now over 20,000. That makes it even more difficult to for general customers to locate useful capabilities.
Voicebot.ai noticed today that, in some scenarios, Alexa will now recommend third-party skills when her own functionality is limited.
After Voicebot.ai identified the new capability, TechCrunch solicited Amazon for comment and confirmation…
“Currently, in limited scenarios, Alexa will respond to certain questions by suggesting skills that may be helpful,” an Amazon spokesperson told TechCrunch. “We are excited for this feature to expand and to roll out to more customers over time to help them discover new skills and get information through Alexa.”
