With Alexa’s ever-increasing popularity, new Alexa-enabled products deliver almost daily. Some are duds – some are interesting and valuable. Each week, we take a look at new and important Alexa add-on hardware you might want to consider adding to your Alexa device farm.
This week’s hardware: Vobot Smart Alarm Clock
Description: Vobot smart clock is the world’s first smart clock with amazon Alexa. It’s an interactive voice and touch controlled smart clock that uses amazon Alexa voice service to set alarms, play music, control smart home devices and much more.
Real world use: This one looks pretty neat, though the Amazon reviews are mixed. Essentially, Vobot has taken Alexa and shoved her into an alarm clock that sports a digital face for the time. And then the company also embedded some other neat features you wouldn’t expect such as motion sensing, built-in relaxation techniques, scheduled music and news for alarms, and other things.
The Vobot, however, does not support Alexa wake words. You can only interact with Alexa by “tapping” the smart clock (similarly to how the Amazon Tap worked prior to the wake word update). But, for a smart clock, this seems pretty natural. The smart clock also contains a rechargeable battery so you can move it around your home. Vobot says the battery lasts for about 8 hours.
Where to get the hardware: Amazon has the Vobot Smart Alarm Clock for around $50: Vobot Smart Alarm Clock with Amazon Alexa
