Alexa-enabled Product of the Week: Logitech ZeroTouch

With Alexa’s ever-increasing popularity, new Alexa-enabled products deliver almost daily. Some are duds – some are interesting and valuable. Each week, we take a look at new and important Alexa add-on hardware you might want to consider adding to your Alexa device farm.

Alexa is available for Amazon devices Echo, Dot, Tap, Echo Show, Echo Look, Dash Wand, Fire tablets, and Fire TV, Amazon Fire TV Edition TVs, but also on iOS, Android, and the web with Reverb.ai.

This week’s hardware: Logitech ZeroTouch

Description: ZeroTouch is your hands-free, in-car connectivity solution to your digital world. After installing the app, just place your Android phone on the magnetic car mount and speak freely so you can keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. The purchase of this ZeroTouch car mount is required to use the app.

Real world use: This particular piece of hardware has been available for a while, but we’ve never covered it in our weekly series. However, this is a pretty significant piece of Alexa-integrated hardware. And, really its not the hardware that’s the critical piece, but how the software and hardware combines to deliver the Alexa solution.

Essentially, the ZeroTouch mount attaches to your car’s air conditioner vent so you can quickly place your Android smartphone within view. With the ZeroTouch app installed from the Google Play store, the smartphone sits waiting for commands. You “wake” up Alexa by waving your hand in front of the mounted smartphone and then start querying Alexa’s capability by voice. In addition to normal Alexa capability on the go, the ZeroTouch software also gives you the ability to text, chat, make calls, and retrieve navigation hands-free.

This currently only works for Android smartphones. Logitech had promised that it would provide similar capability for iPhone users, but this has still not come to fruition.

Where to get the hardware: Amazon has the Logitech ZeroTouch for $49.00: Logitech ZeroTouch Air Vent Car Mount with Voice-Command App for Android Phones

Android app: ZeroTouch

Incidentally, there’s also a dash mount version of this, if you don’t like the vent mounted version: Logi ZeroTouch Dashboard Cell Phone Holder with Voice-Control App for Android Phones
