Alexa-enabled Product of the Week: GUESS CONNECT Smartwatch

With Alexa’s ever-increasing popularity, new Alexa-enabled products deliver almost daily. Some are duds – some are interesting and valuable. Each week, we take a look at new and important Alexa add-on hardware you might want to consider adding to your Alexa device farm.

Alexa is available for Amazon devices Echo, Dot, Tap, Echo Show, Echo Look, Dash Wand, Fire tablets, and Fire TV, Amazon Fire TV Edition TVs, but also on iOS, Android, and the web with Reverb.ai.

This week’s hardware: GUESS CONNECT Smartwatch

Description: Seamlessly integrated with Alexa, Amazon’s cloud-based voice service. Just tap and ask Alexa, to enjoy thousands of skills on the go, such as hearing the latest news, weather and traffic reports, check sport scores, and much more.

Real world use: Many who read about the Alexa connected smartwatches believe that these work on their own and somehow connect to the greater Internet to pull down information. While I hope that does happen eventually, the ones produced currently still need to be tethered to a compatible smartphone through Bluetooth. Much like the fitness smartwatches without GPS (ahem – Apple Watch) that still require a smartphone – these Alexa-capable devices are the same.

However, this is still a useful gadget. It works with iPhone and Android, but its capability means you can leave your smartphone in your pocket and just initiate Alexa queries with your wrist. But, the true value is that you can have stylish wristwear with hidden technology. Play secret agent and wear Alexa to your next state dinner or night out for ballroom dancing.

In addition to delivering Alexa capabilities, you can also use this smartwatch to use voice commands to make calls, control your smartphone camera, receive notifications, and use talk to text.

Where to get the hardware: Amazon has the smartwatch for $199.00 and is available for both men and women:
