Alexa Skills: Notifications for Family Emergencies

If you’re concerned about a family member who lives alone, or elderly parents that need additional care and assistance, you should be interested in the Ask My Buddy skill for Alexa. Once enabled and linked and configured through the accompanying service, the Ask My Buddy skill can be setup to alert a single person or everyone in a maintained contact list when help is required. The list is maintained through the Ask My Buddy Personal Alert Network and stores names and contact information including First name, Last name, Cell number, Home (Voice) number, and/or Email address. One extra interesting aspect of this skill – it works with all Amazon Alexa devices including the Amazon Dash Wand. SMS/ConfigMgr Community Member Needs Help to Save His House

If you’ve been in the community for a long time, you’ll remember Chuck Young. Chuck was a go-getter. He was the first to deploy massive updates to SMS/ConfigMgr in production over a weekend and then report back to the entire community about what broke and what to avoid. His enthusiasm for SMS/ConfigMgr is a hallmark of what this community was, is, and always will be – GIVING. There’s a selfless air to this community that is second to none. And, quite frankly, without personalities like Chuck, this community (and possibly ConfigMgr) wouldn’t even exist. And, there are definitely some MVPs who would never have been awarded without the community spirit members like Chuck infused. Chuck and his wife actually married at the Microsoft Management Summit 2003. And, wh...

Review: VAUX Speaker and Portable Battery for Amazon Echo Dot

I could honestly begin and end this review in a single sentence: This is absolutely the most brilliant Alexa device accessory and you definitely need one. And, really, that still wouldn’t do this device justice. The speaker is just a bit shorter than the large Echo and just a tad bit thicker than the Echo Dot, but this could possibly be the best accessory available right now. The speaker is phenomenal. Audio is exceptional. And, considering that the large Echo speaker from Amazon still hovers around the $150 mark when its on sale, The VAUX beats it hands-down. For those that already own a Dot, this is a $49 accessory to turn it into a mixture of the Tap’s portability and the Echo’s solid speaker. If you’re just looking to get into Alexa devices, the VAUX with an Ech...

Microsoft Introduces New Replacement Terms for Windows as a Service Updates

Just as Windows 10 is a never-completed product, so, it seems, is the terms, functions, and processes of the Windows as a Service updating model. Microsoft continues to evolve what this updating scheme actually means and the constant changes can be confusing. In a recent video (HERE), Michael Niehaus (director for Windows Commercial at Microsoft)  talks through the changes and gives customers guidance on how to develop a “Plan and Prepare,” “Targeted Deploy,” and “Broadly Deploy” strategy for updating Windows 10. One the changes that customers will recognize right away is how Microsoft talks about updates. In the video, Michael talks about Microsoft’s new plans for delivering major feature updates twice year for Windows 10, Windows Server, and Offi...
