Appalachian Trail Hike

Ok I just finished a 2 day and a wakeup hike on the Appalachian Trail Hiking with my sons Boy Scout troop (Troop 203 in Dillsburg PA). It was with my Son (obviously and 35 other scouts and leaders) Anyway we covered approximately 12 miles of the trail. We hiked with a full pack with everything we would need for 2 days with 1 water checkpoint mid way. My pack weighed about 55 lbs with water and food and my sons was 21 lbs (he is 12 ), he is still small so he can only carry 20% of his body weight and so Dad was the pack mule. I still weigh 197lbs so this trip half killed me… The part of the trail that we did started at Caledonia State Park in PA and ended at Waynesboro, PA. Friday night(we started at about 5:30pm) was about 3 miles uphill then 1 mile downhill to Rocky Mountain Shelters...

Infographic: Is Siri as popular as we’re being led to believe?

Siri may be pretty powerful, but the Infographic shows that it’s not being utilized as the same tool you see Samuel Jackson using to get ready for a date. Courtesy of: Online Degrees

KB Watch: Installing OpsMgr 2012 fails with error code 0x80131604

A modification in the way SQL Server allows changes to it’s catalogs is the culprit here.  If you are installing OpsMgr 2012 to a server that has been modified to not “allow updates” (setting changed to ‘1’), then OpsMgr 2012 will not install and the resulting error code will be 0x80131604 along with a bunch of other goodies in the %LocalAppData%\SCOM\Logs. This KB article explains it all and offers a resolution through changing the setting back to the default. This is one of those cases where OpsMgr installations tested at Microsoft may not represent every environment that it will be installed to in the wild. Run Windows 8 in a VM. Parallels cuts price to $9.99!

Just received an email for a PCWorld exclusive rate on Parallels Virtualization for PCs.  Normally $80, you can get it for $9.99.  Not sure how long this will last. Looks pretty tempting.  From the web site: Parallels Workstation 6 lets you simultaneously run multiple OS configurations at the same time on Windows and Linux PCs, without rebooting. You can even access them remotely with the Parallels Mobile app for iPad or iPhone! Link:  http://www.parallels.com/pcworld-exclusive

SCCM 07 Health Check Logon Framework…

So I had another problem, and one I know I’m not alone in… I’ve got clients that are failing, won’t install, have corrupt wmi repositories, and obviously I can’t deploy a repair solution to them so what do we do? Well like most people in an enterprise environment (or smaller I’m sure) we maintain a logon script, and considering that this script will run come hail or high water it is clearly the best possible automated resolution point possible. There have been some really great log on health check scripts written by a lot of great people here in the MyITForum community, and having used two of the more popular ones I’ve decided there are some great things in both of them, but in one case more than what I need; and the other just short of my needs. S...
