SCCM – HTA Script to postpone software deployment

here’s a HTA application that I’ve developed to allow users to postpone a deployment. This allow you to notify the users in a language other than the sccm client (if you dont have the ICP installed), set the number of times it may postpone the installation, set a timer on the installation if any responds, kill processes if necessary (possible to enforce if needed) and also simplify the interaction with the user… Also, ATL+F4 is disabled. Download Script ; PromptUser_V1.txt or Link you only need to change the strCommand,  processlist = “”  and processnames = “” value to match with your deployement. Windows 8 and capturing it for SCCM 2012…

Last couple of weeks and today I tried to build and capture a Windows 8 Developer Edition and Windows 8 Consumer Preview with Configuration Manager 2012. But unfortunately the Sysprep phase will always fail with an error 4 (The System cannot open the file) and 0x80004004. I also got the same error when using the Capture Task Sequence Media. But since I still would like to deploy and manage a custom Windows 8 image with Configuration Manager 2012, I tried it the old fashion way. Manually Sysprep the machine and create a custom WIM image from WinPE with imagex. Read the complete blog here: http://www.systemcenterblog.nl/2012/02/29/windows-8-and-capturing-it-for-sccm-2012/

What will Brad Anderson be talking about at MMS 2012?

Brad Anderson is once again providing the keynotes for MMS this year.  Brad always does an excellent job but I have an insider tip that this year Brad will be sporting a severe tan onstage to make the moment even more memorable.  Apparently, he was concerned with his pale skin in year’s past, so he’s heading to MMS 2012 just off a vacation trip to Mexico. Here’s what Brad will be talking about this year. Day 1: Microsoft Private Cloud. Built for the Future. Ready Now. Cloud computing and the delivery of true IT as a Service is one of the most profound industry shifts in decades. Join Brad Anderson, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Management and Security Division, as he shares Microsoft’s vision for cloud computing and shows how System Center 2012, as part of the Microsoft...

PowerShell Script to run ConfigMgr Task Sequence On-demand

I wrote a script to handle a cluster patching situation where I needed to give a server owner the ability to run the ConfigMgr monthly patch management task sequence on-demand (immediately) via PowerShell.  The server owner would use another script to make their machine, in this case a cluster joined virtual server host, ready for patching (resources drained, removed from the cluster, etc.) and then initiate the patch task sequence to install any required security updates. At the end of the task sequence a post-patching script will make the server ready for production (rejoin the cluster) so they can continue onto the next host programmatically, rinse, repeat, through the rest of the clustered hosts. The script takes a parameter for the machine name (else it will default to the local machi...

MSKB 2635742: A fast client system clock causes OpsMgr clients to not be monitored

Microsoft has fast published KB article 2635742 and the information is both interesting and valuable.  Basically, if the PC of an agented client is significantly faster (more than a few minutes) than the system clock on the RMS, the timestamping process breaks. Microsoft provides a resolution and code to determine if the problem exists in your organization. The MSKB link:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2635742/

ConfigMgr 2012 hierarchy overview and attention getter

D.C. Tardy (sounds like a great street or rapper name) gives a high-level overview of the ConfigMgr 2012 hierarchy with enough meat to make you hungry for the docs. Read the full post: Hierarchy Design in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager After reading (or before) D.C.’s post, you might also want to take a look at another post I put up recently.  Putting these two posts together helps give a bigger, more complete the hierarchy planning picture. ConfigMgr 2012 sounds neat, but can it scale?
