DaRT delayed load in ConfigMgr task sequence – Use Toolkit Package

We use 1E NomadBranch so our builds spend almost an hour in WinPE (pre-caching content) before booting into Windows. There are not many steps but sometimes there can be failures and we cannot always rely on the logs to be properly saved using SLSHARE. DaRT can be very useful here to allow remote access to WinPE. See Johan’s post to get it setup: http://www.deploymentresearch.com/Research/tabid/62/EntryId/131/Adding-DaRT-8-1-from-MDOP-2013-R2-to-ConfigMgr-2012-R2.aspx...

ConfigMgr 2012 – DCR – Functionality to allow driver packages to be installed dynamically in task sequences

During a lengthy and fun discussion with Aaron Czechowski at TechEd this week, we discussed a very useful OSD feature request: Dynamic Driver Packages! If you have a lot of hardware models to support in your environment and are using Johan Arwidmark’s Total Control method you probably have task sequences that look like the picture above. These cause two major...

Automate “UDA Application” Installations During OSD

As I’m escaping the windowless lab a client has set up for me and seeking refuge in a well lit cafe for lunch, I chance upon a colleague who works for a national consulting firm. I invite him to join me, and after the initial pleasantries we start discussing our current projects. To our mutual amusement, we’re both working on...

An OSD Front End with PowerShell

Daniel Ratliff recently upgraded his site to System Center Configuration Manager 2012 SP1.  Prior to that he was utilizing an HTML-based front end for OSD for ConfigMgr 2007. With the improved capability in ConfigMgr 2012 and support for PowerShell 3.0 in WinPE 4.0, he felt the need to develop his own front end.  And, thankfully, he also felt the need...

Confirmed: SMSCACHESIZE is ignored in ConfigMgr 2012

There’s been a running thread on the MDT/OSD email discussion list that started in July 2012 about the SMSCACHESIZE setting not working within an OS deployment task sequence for ConfigMgr 2012.  In ConfigMgr 2007, you could use the SMSCACHESIZE setting to bump up the client’s cache size during the OS deployment.  In ConfigMgr 2012, that’s no longer the case.  No...

Failing PXE boots with SCCM 2007

While updating our primary x86 boot image with new network drivers from the Dell WinPE Driver Pack today, we ran into an issue where PXE boot stopped working after we updated the DPs for the boot image (the standard DP and PXE DP). OSD/Task Sequence/PXE – Duplicate SMBIOS GUIDs (System UUIDs) in SCCM 2007

This article is regarding an issue we originally blogged about over at The Configuration Manager Support Team Blog regarding issues with PXE booting caused by duplicate SMBIOS GUIDs.. At the time that we wrote the article we really didn’t have a good solution or workaround on the ConfigMgr/WDS side to fix the issue. Since the issue was a problem caused...
