Set-up a Windows File Share (WFS) Subscription in SSRS

By Garth Jones

What is a Windows File Share (WFS) subscription in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)?

WFS allows you to run a SSRS report and save a copy of it to a file share.

In my opinion, WFS subscriptions in SSRS are under-used. How often are you asked to provide daily or weekly stats for a project, and then asked to upload these files to a SharePoint server or something similar? This is a great place to use WFS. I have used WFS at a client’s for exactly this purpose. We created a report to show the roll-out of Office 2010 to every desktop. Then we used WFS with SharePoint to create and upload the report daily to the project SharePoint site. Once the subscription was set-up, they never had to manually do this again.

This video will show you how to create a WFS subscription.
