Find Windows 8 replacements for your favorite Android or iOS apps

One of the biggest issues for migrating to a Windows-based tablet or phone is giving up your favorite apps.  If you’ve used iOS or Android for a long time, you’ve become accustomed to using specific applications.  In reality, in the mobile world it’s really not the OS or the hardware that makes one vendor a leader over the other, it’s the apps you become familiar with and rely on.  So, to make a switch from one platform to another is a big deal.  If the apps aren’t the same, the replacements don’t provide the same functionality, or they don’t exist at all, you’re more than likely not to switch.

Windows 8 faces the same issue, and probably moreso considering the number of apps available in the Microsoft Store is substantially less than Google Play or iTunes.

So, how do you figure out if your favorite app exists, or if a quality alternative is available?

There’s an app for that.

AppSwitch (in the Microsoft Store) is a free app that helps you find Windows 8 apps that are similar to apps available on iOS and Android. It’s not perfect, but it will definitely help you decide if changing platforms is for you.

Yes, it is. That’s how I found it. Go to the Store and do a search for “AppSwitch”. It’s the only item that gets returned.
